Quality Castor Wheels for Every Application
Pelican Metal Craft supplies a comprehensive range of castor wheels for industrial, commercial, and medical applications across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania. A caster (or castor) is an undriven wheel designed to be attached to the bottom of equipment, furniture, or trolleys to enable easy movement across floors and other surfaces.
Our castor wheel range includes everything from light duty castors for office furniture and medical equipment to heavy duty industrial castors capable of carrying loads up to 500kg and beyond. Available in swivel, fixed, and braked configurations with wheels in rubber, polyurethane, nylon, and other materials to suit your specific application.

Types of Castor Wheels
Swivel Castors
360° rotation for maximum manoeuvrability. Automatically aligns to direction of travel. Ideal for carts, trolleys, and equipment requiring frequent direction changes. Includes offset distance between vertical shaft and wheel axis for proper tracking.
Applications: Shopping carts, hospital beds, office chairs, platform trucks
Fixed (Rigid) Castors
Straight-line movement only with directional stability. Often paired with swivel castors for balanced control. No swivel mechanism - simpler construction and lower cost.
Applications: Rear wheels of shopping carts, straight-line conveyor systems
Braked Castors
Includes locking mechanism that secures the wheel in place when stationary. Some models offer total lock (wheel + swivel). Essential for safety and stability. Prevents unintentional movement.
Applications: Hospital beds, tool trolleys, workstations, mobile equipment
Directional Lock Castors
Also called total lock caster, has additional rotational lock on vertical shaft. Neither shaft swiveling nor wheel rotation can occur. Provides rigid support when needed while allowing both mobility and stability.
Applications: Heavy equipment, precision positioning equipment
Kingpinless Castors
No kingpin - eliminates most causes of swivel caster failure. Reduces or eliminates shimmy after use. Ideal for high-impact situations with comparable capacity to sealed precision ball bearings.
Applications: High-impact environments, demanding industrial settings
Wheel Materials
Choose the right material based on your environment and application requirements.

Castor Selection Guide
Determine Load Requirements
Calculate required load capacity per castor: (Total Equipment Weight + Maximum Load) ÷ 3
Example: For a 1000 kg load: 1000 ÷ 3 = 334 kg minimum per castor
Choose Castor Type
Swivel Castors: For manoeuvrability and direction changes
Fixed Castors: For straight-line stability (often pair with swivels)
Braked Castors: For safety when stationary
Select Wheel Material
Smooth indoor floors: Soft rubber or polyurethane
Rough/uneven surfaces: Larger diameter, harder materials
High temperature: Phenolic resin, duroplast, cast iron
Determine Wheel Diameter
Larger diameter = easier rolling over obstacles. Standard sizes: 50-200mm
Consider available mounting height and account for swivel radius
